Acrylic, oil pastel, and graphite on canvas
Terracotta and burnt orange hold the whole canvas, worked warm and worked over. A white ladder runs up the center, rungs drawn one at a time, the clearest one in the studio. Around it: boxed forms, arrows, script in coral and oxblood, a barred window at the lower left, dark blocks pressing in from the edges.
The title names a method. Two pressures working the same subject from opposite sides, and the subject is the surface. Heat and restraint, opening and closing, both applied until something gives. What you see is what the canvas gave up. Large, saturated, and warm. Orange at this scale raises the temperature of a room. It suits a wall that can take intensity rather than one that needs calming.
