A sycophant tells you what you want to hear. A psychophant does it from inside your own head. This is the most agreeable surface in the studio. Bone, oyster, clay, and soft terracotta, laid open and unhurried, the palette a room says yes to on sight. That is the argument. The painting flatters you first. Stay with it. Burnt orange lines loop through the lower half and close into nothing. Oxblood presses in from the right and goes black at the edge.
Drips fall through every layer, straight down, dozens of them. Script runs along the top corners, close to readable, never arriving. Nothing here is as settled as the color promised. The painting agrees with you and keeps its own counsel. Large and warm neutral. It reads calm from across a room and reads differently up close, which is the whole point.
