Color gathers along the bottom of the canvas and rises. Crimson, coral, blue, and yellow crowd the lower half, thick and overlapping, then thin as they climb until almost nothing is left but white and a pale wash of green. This is not a picture of flowers. It is color doing what a garden does. Everything is densest where it is rooted, and the further up it goes the more it gives way to light. Drips fall back down through it, which is the only thing in the painting moving in the other direction. Bright, light, and easy to live with. It opens a room rather than weighting it, and works above a bed, a sofa, or a console where soft color has room to breathe.
